My name is Susan Farrell-Poncelet, and I am the eighth through twelfth grade English, photography, and art teacher, prom advisor, oral interp coach, speech and debate coach, yearbook advisor, and senior capstone project advisor at Sanborn Central. No, those aren't "other duties as assigned" I actually signed up for that madness. I am the "magical unicorn" or dysfunctional whatever who loves math, but teaches English and art. Go figure! I also teach special topic externally funded graduate courses in conjunction with the South Dakota Council of Teachers of English and Dakota State University.
I earned my Associate and Bachelor of Science degrees in Business Administration with a health care concentration from Colorado Technical University, my teaching certification from Dakota State University, and my Master of Education in English Education from Valley City State University. I am in the process of obtaining my administrative certificate through the University of Kansas.
I am the treasurer for the South Dakota Council of Teachers of English and am the chairperson for the Sanborn Central Education Association. I am a member of the Speech Communication Association of South Dakota and the National Council of Teachers of English, as well as serve on the Young Adult Reading Program committee through the South Dakota Library Association.
As my current and former students can attest, I LOVE coffee and am a voracious reader. When I'm not teaching, I enjoy spending time with my twin daughters and black lab, taking photographs, painting, traveling, and if possible, spending time at the lake fishing and kayaking.
